Privacy notice
Yugala is a dating and marriage proposals service for Sri Lankans in Sri Lanka and around the world. Dating information is personal, so this notice explains plainly what we collect, why, who sees it, and your rights.
Who we are
Yugala is run by [OPERATOR NAME AND ADDRESS: your company, or your own name and a service address] ("we"). We are the data controller under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). For members in Sri Lanka, we also follow the Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022.

What we collect

Sensitive information
Some profile details can reveal sensitive things about you, such as your sexual orientation (from who you choose to see) or, in marriage proposals, your religion. We only use these to provide the service you've asked for, and we rely on your explicit consent, which you give by choosing to add them. You can change or remove them at any time. We never ask about caste.
Our legal reasons
- Contract: to provide the service you signed up for.
- Explicit consent: for sensitive information you choose to share (see above).
- Legitimate interests: to keep members safe, prevent fraud and investigate reports.
- Legal obligation: where the law requires us to keep or share information.
Who can see your information
- Other members see your profile card: first name, age, photos, location, languages, job, "about you" and what you're looking for. People you've blocked, or who've blocked you, can't see you.
- Only your matches can message you and see your social handles (unless you chose "everyone").
- The Yugala team can access accounts when needed to run the service and investigate reports.
- Service providers who process data for us under contract: Supabase (database, photo storage and login, hosted in the UK/EU), Vercel (website hosting) and our email provider (account emails). Where data is handled outside the UK, they use the safeguards UK law requires, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
- Authorities, only where the law requires it or to protect someone from serious harm.
We never sell your information or share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
- While your account is open.
- When you delete your account (Profile → Delete my account), your profile, photos, likes, matches and messages are deleted straight away. Copies in backups are removed within 30 days.
- Reports about other members are kept for up to 2 years, so we can act on repeated misuse.
- Waitlist sign-ups from before the app opened are kept until we've invited you, and no longer than 12 months.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete your information, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent. Most of this you can do yourself in the app. For anything else, email hello@yugaladating.com and we'll reply within one month.
You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. If you live in Sri Lanka, you can also contact the Data Protection Authority of Sri Lanka.
Age
Yugala is only for people aged 18 and over. We remove any account we believe belongs to someone under 18.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Strict database rules mean members can only see what's described above. Photos are stored privately and shown only to signed-in members. No system is perfect, so use a strong, unique password and never share it.
Changes
If we make important changes, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
